As part of the Celebration of Innovation, CASNR and IANR are collecting items for a time capsule. Students, staff, faculty, alumni and stakeholders are all welcomed to submit their ideas.

FAQs

When will the time capsule be sealed?

The IANR/CASNR time capsule will be sealed on Saturday, June 9, 2023, as part of the Celebration of Innovation East Campus Open House in conjunction with East Campus Discovery Days and Farmers Market. Or at the banquet that evening.

When will the time capsule be opened?

The time capsule will be opened on the 200th anniversary of CASNR and 100th anniversary of IANR in 2073.

How do I participate in the time capsule contest?

To participate in the contest, complete the entry form below.

Who can participate in the time capsule contest?

If you are at least 18 years old, you are eligible to participate in the time capsule contest. See the rules and regulations for more details.

When will the winners be announced?

Starting in early 2023, winners will be announced periodically until the contest ends on May 1.

Are there any size restrictions for time capsule items?

For the time capsule contest, all items must fit in a 32x24x12 inch box. See the competition rules and regulations for guidelines.

Competition Rules and Regulations

Competition Timeframe

The Celebration of Innovation Time Capsule Contest begins on Nov. 22, 2022, at 8 a.m. Central Standard Time and ends on May 1, 2023.

Items Not Permitted:

Please note, the time capsule committee reserves the right to deny any items it does not deem appropriate for the time capsule.

Perishable items (food, etc.), weapons, ammunition, explosives or fireworks, fertilizer, flares, liquid fuels (butane, propane, etc.) e.g. lighters, hookahs, cigarettes, cigars, smoking materials, etc., flammable liquids or gels, chemicals, dry ice, aerosols, liquids, compressed air or gas (CO2), computers, batteries nor things containing batteries, flash/electronic storage without Missouri S&T approval, hard drives, nothing living, items you may want back, offensive, immoral, obscene, indecent, or profane materials.

Eligibility

The contest is open to all members of the IANR/CASNR community. The contest is void where prohibited by law.

Prize

There will be 10 prizes, each prize consisting of the winning contestant being given the opportunity to fill a container with the items described in such contestant’s entry, which will be placed in the Time Capsule. The university reserves the right to award additional prizes in its sole discretion. Any winning contestant may elect, in his or her sole discretion, not to submit their entry. The university will announce winners periodically throughout the contest.

Each item included in the container by a prize recipient shall be the sole property of the university. Each winner must be willing to participate in the university’s marketing and promotional efforts related to the contest

How to Enter

No purchase is required for eligibility in the contest. During the Contest Entry Period, to enter to win, contestants must visit celebrateinnovation.unl.edu, complete the entry form, follow the directions, and list the items to be included in the container with an explanation of why item should be included.

Any entry submitted after the end of the contest entry period will not be eligible for the contest. Each contestant may enter as many times as a contestant likes, but each item must be submitted separately.

Determination of Winner

A panel of university representatives and/or members of the community will choose, in their sole discretion, each of the winners of prizes. The decision of the panel will be final and binding. The panel will consider, in its sole discretion, the uniqueness, creativity, relevance, size, and/or other aspects of the items included by the contestant in the contestant’s entry, and whether such items will serve as a unique story in 2073. The winners need not be present at any physical location at the time the winners are announced. Winners of prizes will be notified via email.
